There were once many more dragonflights, but eventually five rose to prominence as the others declined: It is marked by the banners of all five primary flights and the Valdrakken Accord. The Dragonflights once shared their knowledge with one another at Algeth'ar Academy a practice recently reignited. This did not affect the various lesser dragonkin left behind on the Dragon Isles who appear to have been spared from the horrors that divided their kind. Members of all the dragonflights used to intermingle a lot, but after the Dragon Wars, most flights now keep to themselves. Since the fall of Deathwing, the dragons, including the former Aspects and Alexstrasza herself, have apparently lost most of their power, along with most of their eggs in the Wyrmrest Temple sanctums and their ability to further reproduce. Lesser dragonflights and organizations beyond the main five also exist, which are usually off-shoots of the other flights in some capacity. The five great dragonflights are identified by their coloration: black, blue, bronze, green, and red. The leaders of each group were called the Dragon Aspects, the Great Aspects, or simply the Aspects. It was these five flights that the Keepers chose to shepherd the budding world. In early history, there were many dragonflights (there were dragons in every color of the rainbow), yet there were five flights that held dominion over their brethren. They are typically led and made up primarily by their respective color's dragons though they also include lesser dragonkin such as drakonid, dragonspawn and even mortals. The inhabitants of Deepholm, the Skywall, the Firelands, and the Abyssal Maw are less than talkative on these matters, however, and most of them were not around when the elemental prisons were created.“I cannot help but wonder if things would have turned out different if the titans had elevated even one more dragonflight.”ĭragonflights (aka flights) represent the overarching organizations that uphold the objectives of the dragons. This may mean that they are in fact elementals similar to the phoenixes from the Firelands.īrann Bronzebeard recently uncovered evidence, corroborated by reports from adventurers in Deepholm, that proto-dragons and dragons may have origins in these - and other - elemental drakes. They also seem to be non-sentinent beings, as none of them so far can be seen using any kind of language, neither draconic nor kalimag. It appears they are quite tightly connected to the element of air, and serve Al'Akir, mostly found in Vortex Pinnacle. Their draconic appearance however may not indicate their true nature. Their origin is unknown, as before the Shattering no one had seen them (or lived long enough to tell the story). The mighty storm dragons are mysterious creatures that inhabit Skywall, the portion of the Elemental Plane that serves as the domain of air elementals. “Gentle as a summer breeze, but that says little considering where it came from.”
